“Carl “Butch” Fitzsimmons is running for the New York Assembly in District 130. He has an opponent in the Democratic primary on June 23. The Republican incumbent, who won in 2024 with 64% of the vote, is not seeking re-election. Fitzsimmons is a veteran who built a career in computer hardware and software engineering. He also served his community as Chair of the Town of Sodus and Town of Webster Democratic Committees, a member of the Sodus Point Planning Board, a small-business owner, an assistant scout leader, a youth sports coach, and a longtime Science Olympiad mentor and judge. His policy priorities include strong public schools, cost effective healthcare, infrastructure investment, and government accountability. Fitzsimmons is an agnostic and humanist.”

I am very proud to announce that our campaign has received the Gun Sense Champion of Distinction recognition from Moms Demand Action for our stance on comprehensive and effective gun safety policy. I take this issue quite seriously.

As a Vietnam Era Army Veteran who received multiple marksmanship awards as well as a long time Boy Scout leader, I fully understand that the ownership and use of guns requires the utmost in safety, security and respect.

As a member of the NY Assembly I will support legislation that requires certifications, registration and insurance be obtained in conjunction with the ownership of certain specific types of guns. The ownership of any gun comes with serious responsibilities. Effective and mindful legislation will allow gun enthusiasts the opportunity to continue to enjoy their recreational use while also protecting our communities from the avoidable dangers that irresponsible gun ownership may cause.
